TrueNAS CORE
Learn how to backup your TrueNAS device to Filebase.

What is TrueNAS CORE?

TrueNAS CORE, formerly FreeNAS, is a software solution that gives you the ability to create your own storage system on any hardware or virtual machine. TrueNAS is also a suite of Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices used for storing and keeping local or onsite backups of data. NAS devices come in many sizes and configurations, both for home users and enterprise level data storage. While they are important pieces of disaster and data recovery plans, if something were to destroy or corrupt the NAS device, the data stored on it would be lost. Therefore, backing up your NAS device to a form of offsite, cloud storage is just as important to your disaster or data recovery plan.
TrueNAS CORE is certified for use with Filebase. Read below for steps to configure your TrueNAS device for backups to Filebase.

Prerequisites:

  • Download and install TrueNAS CORE.
  • Have Your Filebase Access and Secret Keys. Learn how to view your access keys here.
  • Create a Filebase Bucket. Learn how to create a bucket here.

1. After installing TrueNAS CORE, navigate to the Web Interface Dashboard.

2. Once in the Web Interface Dashboard, navigate to System > Cloud Credentials

3. From the Cloud Credentials page, select ‘add’ to add your Filebase credentials.

4. Enter the following information to configure TrueNAS CORE with your Filebase account:

  • Name: Filebase
  • Provider: Amazon S3
  • Access Key ID: Your Filebase Access Key
  • Secret Access Key: Your Filebase Secret Key
Select ‘Authentication Advanced Options’
Ensure V2 signatures is unchecked.

5. Select ‘Verify Credential’ to verify the connection.

Select Submit to save these settings.

6. On the left side bar menu, select Tasks > Cloud Sync Tasks. Select ‘Add’.

7. Configure the Cloud Sync Task.

  • Description: Description of task
  • Connection: PUSH
  • Transfer Mode: COPY, SYNC, or MOVE. Select the transfer mode you would like to configure. Read the details of each carefully.
  • Directory Files: Select the files to push to Filebase.
  • Remote Credential: Filebase (S3)
  • Bucket: Select the bucket you’d like to use from the drop down menu.
  • Folder: If there is a folder inside the bucket you’d like to use, select this folder.
  • Control: Select the scheduled time and frequency of the cloud sync task.
Configure any advanced options as desired.

8. Select ‘Dry Run’ to do a test sync of this configuration, or select ‘Submit’ to submit this Cloud Sync task.

After submitting the task, you can view it from the Cloud Sync Tasks dashboard to see its status.
