Learn how to use ownCloud with Filebase.

What is ownCloud?

ownCloud is a suite of software that can turn any computer into a file server. ownCloud can be configured for use with external storage sources, such as cloud storage like Google Drive and S3-compatible storage like Filebase.

Read below to learn how to use ownCloud for use with Filebase.

Prerequisites:

• Download and install ownCloud.

• Sign up for a free Filebase account.

• Have your Filebase Access and Secret Keys. Learn how to view your access keys here.

• Create a Filebase Bucket. Learn how to create a bucket here.

This guide was tested with Ubuntu 20.04 using this installation guide. Commands and workflow may vary based on your operating system.

1. Login to your ownCloud admin dashboard.

2. Expand the menu in the top left corner, and select ‘Market’ from the list of options.

3. In the market category list, select ‘Storage’.

4. Scroll down and locate the ‘External Storage: S3’ package. Click on the package name to bring up the install page.

5. Click ‘Install’.

6. After installing, go back to the ownCloud admin homepage.

Select your admin account in the top right corner, then select ‘Settings’.

7. Click the tick box to enable External Storage, then enter the following settings to configure a connection to Filebase:

External Storage: Amazon S3 Compatible (SDK v3)

• Authentication: Access Key

• Configuration: -

  • Bucket Name: Filebase Bucket Name

  • Endpoint: s3.filebase.com

  • Port: 443

  • Region: 443

  • Enable SSL

  • Access Key: Filebase Access Key

  • Secret Key: Filebase Secret Key

8. Once your configuration has been saved, go back to your ownCloud dashboard. Your Filebase connection will now be listed as a file folder:

9. Click on this file folder. Your Filebase bucket contents will be displayed:
