ENS: Configure an ENS Domain to use a Filebase IPFS Dedicated Gateway

Learn how to configure an ENS domain name to use a Filebase IPFS Dedicated Gateway URL.

What is an ENS Domain?

ENS, or Ethereum Name Service, is a domain name registry on the Ethereum blockchain. It allows users to associate human-readable names with Ethereum addresses, such as a personal website or cryptocurrency wallet, making it easier for people to remember and share than the string of numbers and letters that makes up a typical Ethereum address. ENS domains can be bought and sold on the open market, and they can also be used as an addressing mechanism for decentralized applications built on the Ethereum platform.

Read below to learn how to configure an ENS domain name to use a Filebase IPFS Dedicated Gateway URL.

Prerequisites:

1. Next, navigate to the Gateways page on the Filebase web console.

Filebase IPFS Dedicated Gateways are a feature only available to paid users. They are not available for users on the free tier.

2. Select the ‘Create Gateway’ button in the upper right corner.

3. A new window will open prompting you to provide a gateway name and select the gateway’s access level.

Gateway names are subject to the same naming restrictions as bucket names. All gateway names must be lowercase, between 3-63 characters, and must be unique.

4. First, head to the Göerli Faucet and send yourself some test ETH.

5. Next, navigate to the ENS domains website. Connect your cryptowallet, and assure that you are on the Göerli network.

6. Then search for the domain that you’d like to use.

7. If the domain you’ve searched for is available, it will be listed as ‘Available’. Then, click on the domain to register it.

8. Confirm the amount of ETH to spend, then select ‘Request to Register’.

9. Once the transaction has been approved through your wallet, it will begin to process.

10. You’ll need to verify the transaction once more to complete the registration process.

11. Once finished, select ‘Set as Primary ENS Name’.

12. Select your ENS domain from the drop-down menu, then select ‘Save’.

13. Then, click on your registered ENS domain.

14. Select ‘Add/Edit Record’.

15. Under ‘Text Record’ enter your Filebase IPFS Dedicated Gateway URL under the ‘URL’ field.

16. Then select ‘Confirm’.

17. Confirm changes, then authorize the transaction through your cryptowallet.
